Our newest guide book, Outdoor Adventures: Acadia National Park, was recently awarded a 2017 National Outdoor Book Award, winning the Outdoor Adventure Guidebook category. Previously called Discover Acadia National Park, our guide to the best hiking, biking, and paddling in Acadia has been meticulously updated for the first time since 2009. Vetted by National Park personnel, Outdoor Adventures Acadia includes a two-sided pull-out map of the park which details all of the hiking trails and carriage roads on Mount Desert Island, Isle au Haut, and the Schoodic Peninsula. The guide features a complete listing and description of all of the park’s hiking trails, as well as 50 custom designed hiking, biking, sea kayaking, and quiet water paddling trips. Cultural and natural history sidebars add to your knowledge of the park, while lists of outfitters, museums, ferries, guided tours and other activities help you plan a complete visit to the park.
We’ve visited Acadia every year since 1988, and the first version of this book was released in 2000 and we’ve now revised it three times. It should be as accurate as a guide book can get since it has not only been reviewed by us and park personnel, but by four sets of editors over the last 17 years. Acadia is one of our favorite places on the planet to spend time every year, and we’ve done most of the trips in this book numerous times. In additional to Outdoor Adventures: Acadia, we have also written and photographed two more books about the park: Wild Acadia, and The Photographer’s Guide to Acadia National Park. You can see some of our favorite photos of the park in this gallery (fine art prints are available.)
